Don’t Worry: God is Great, God is Good

We are doing a series at both churches right now called At The Movies. This week, I used the movie Conviction as the launching point for my talk. I spoke about prayer and having the confidence to approach God and believe for the impossible. I suggested that God wants us to be tenacious in how we pray.

I spoke about how our view of God dictates how we approach him in prayer. In fact, how we see God will affect every aspect of our lives. If we truly believe God is great and God is good, then it would shape how we handled the trials and struggles we face in life. God is bigger than whatever challenge you face. And, he is good. Good enough to know what is best for us — even better than we know ourselves.

Overall, I believe the message hit home with many people. I certainly had a more than a few people thank me for what I said.

Isn’t it interesting that I would need to be reminded of my own message only a day after preaching it? Sometimes, that’s how it goes. Today I received some news that had the potential of striking fear into my heart. I wont go into details about it, but when I heard the news, I immediately felt fear for the future.

It took a few hours, but I’m preaching to myself now. I’m reminding myself what I said yesterday: God is bigger than this. It’s not something that is too difficult for God to overcome. And, in his goodness, he can be trusted. He really can. I’ll be preaching that to myself the rest of the day.

Look, you may have been encouraged on Thursday or Sunday with the message I preached. I’m thankful if you were. But don’t think that it’s always going to be easy to hold fast to the view that God is great and God is good. That’s why we call it faith. At times, it will take everything within you to hold to that truth. But if you do, in the midst of whatever you might be facing, I am confident that God will take you through it. It’s what I’m believing today.

Do you have a “God is great, God is good” moment?
