If I had to come up with one word to describe this past week, it would be celebration.
Bikers Church
- You could feel the energy in the place half an hour before church began. The crowd was huge. In fact, it turned out to be the largest crowd we’ve ever had for a church service.
- There were 20 people who were baptized in water on Thursday night. I loved how loud everyone cheered as each person came up out of the water. It was great to be part of such an amazing celebration.
- After I left the tank to get changed, things went crazy! I came back into the sanctuary to find a bunch of the young people up on the stage dancing as the worship team jammed. Not something I would have expected to see at Bikers’ Church. Loved it!
- My favourite moment of the night? Had to be when one of our long time members came up to me after the service and said something along the lines of this: “I’ll admit that I’ve struggled with all the new people coming to the church. But tonight, I realized that Bikers’ Church means just as much to them as it does to me. I could hear their heart as they shared their stories. I also realized that I don’t know the names of many of the new people, and it’s time to change that.” That’s what I love about this group of people. When they realize they need to change, they own it, and they do something about it.
City Church
- I felt the same level of excitement in the Sunday morning service. We ended up with six people being baptized. Like Thursday night, the people entering the tank came from so many different backgrounds. And yet, their story was the same: “It’s time to give everything to God.” How true is that?
- While I didn’t get the attendance numbers, there was certainly a decent size crowd. And, like Thursday night, I loved hearing the cheering as people came out of the tank. You can feel the genuine sense of family.
- If I had to pick a “moment” from the service, it would have to be when the team sang after the water baptisms. At one point, I could hear the church singing so loudly that it sent chills down my spine. The people were engaged in the service, and that’s always special.
Talk to anyone at either church and it’s clear: God is up to something. We are in a season of tremendous favour and I can’t wait to see what happens next.
We are now going to launch into a new series called Red Letters. It will take us into Easter weekend, and I have a feeling we’re going to just keep moving forward.
