Our current series, Living A Life Of Purpose, is a long one. Most of the time, I limit my series to four weeks. This one will run us seven weeks. That means we hit the half way mark this week. I’m getting a lot of positive feedback, which is a good thing, or I’d be worried about going two months on one series.
Bikers Church
- We celebrated a baby dedication this week. I have to admit, I love doing baby dedications. As I explained, the dedication service really isn’t for the child, it’s for the parents. It’s a public declaration of their commitment to raise their child in such a way that when she is old enough, she’ll desire a personal relationship with God.
- There was a real positive vibe heading into the service tonight. I’m sure part of it had to do with the baby dedication. There were a number of family and friends in attendance (which caused our numbers to be our best ever). But, I don’t think the vibe was only because of the dedication. Cam was wired before the service. People just seemed excited. Everyone was anticipating a great night.
- The band was out of this world. I think it was one of the best nights so far. Great job to everyone who was part of the team. It was especially nice to see my brother-in-law join the band. Watching him play guitar beside his son was very special for me.
- I yelled a lot in the message. I wasn’t mad, just passionate. In fact, by the end of my message, I was losing my voice. Not sure why I was like that tonight, could have had something to do with the fact that I hadn’t slept much the night before. I woke up at 2:30 am and only had another hour of sleep the rest of the night. Whatever the reason, I had fun speaking tonight.
City Church
- Okay, so I didn’t yell as much on Sunday! Another good crowd even with a few of the newer families being away. I spoke with a couple of them, and I love how encouraging they are and how clearly they are committed to being a part of City moving forward.
- Cam hit it out of the park. Each week I figure it can’t get any better, and yet Cam seems to continually turn it up another notch. The team sounds amazing, is working together beautifully, and it’s a joy to see it happen.
- I think we had our biggest pre-service crowd this week. Now, that may not seem like a big deal, but for a group that seems to be continually late in arriving, it was exciting to see so many people in the building at 10:15am. Heather, who was working the cafe, was blown away by how much coffee they went through before the 10:30 start.
- I love seeing so many mid-20’s, early 30’s couples coming out. I believe this group is going to be a huge part of our DNA. I’m really hoping to see many of them get connected and involved within the church.
- I loved the reaction when I announced that we’d be having a water baptism service once we’re done the Purpose series. Heck, I even heard a few cheers. As one board member pointed out to me after the service, “It’s been a long time since we’ve had one of those.” WooHoo!
