Thursday Report

I’m going to steal an idea from my friend, Andy Falleur, and begin writing a brief “report” about the Thursday night service. I love reading about what’s happening at his church and thought others might appreciate hearing about the latest happenings at Bikers’ Church. I’ll probably play around with the format for a few weeks, but for now, will try out a bulleted list.

  • It looks like we’ve seen some serious growth with the move. Last night was our fourth service in the new facility, and we’ve been at least 15–20 more people than we had in the old location. There are certainly some new faces in the crowd each week along with some new “old” faces. I’m excited about the growth because usually a church experiences a small loss of people when they move locations. I think our new place is easier to get to for everyone in the city, whereas the old location was only good for those already in the West End. Here’s hoping the trend of new faces continues.
  • Cam had a full band with him this week and what a huge difference it makes! While he is more than capable of leading worship with just his guitar, having the keyboard, bass, extra guitars, and drums gave the experience a fuller sound. Our room is quite large and the full band offers a great sound. The team had only one practice before playing this week and yet you’d never know it (except I just told you and now the secret’s out!) I can’t wait to see how tight they get as they play more together. I’m also pumped at the potential that is there as more people get involved in this area.
  • I’m happy with the response of the current series, Three Chairs. It seems to be connecting to many people in many different ways. That’s always exciting. I’ve had lots of comments, emails, etc. about the direction of the series and most importantly, people are admitting to being challenged to draw closer to God. In the end, that’s always my desire with the messages I preach.
  • The renovation are almost complete! In fact, if all goes according to schedule, we should be 100% done by next Thursday night! It was great being able to serve coffee from behind the new bar, using our own machines, etc. Everyone who has been involved in the renovations deserves a huge high five for the amount of work they have put into making the place top notch.
  • After a month I can say with total confidence that Vanier is home. I love going into the office every day. I drive through the streets of that community and my heart leaps for all that God wants to accomplish through the church. When City Church purchased that building, they called it a “Miracle Building.” I believe God wanted a presence in that community to be a bright shining light. There are many wonderful churches in Vanier, and to be part of what God is doing there is truly an honour.
