Motorcyclists Are People Too!

I read this article on CBC.ca about a motorcyclists who was killed while riding in a charity ride Saturday in Medicine Hat, Alberta. On Friday, I spent time with a friend here in Ottawa who was involved in a motorcycle accident this past summer. He lived, but lost his leg in the accident.

Both of these incidents remind me again how uncertain life can be. We simply don’t know what the future holds. Each year, men and women climb onto their bikes to enjoy another season of riding. Most of them participate in one or more rides to raise money for various causes. They are a generous bunch.

They are also human. And tragedy can strike at any time. In most cases, the motorcycle community is great at coming around those who go through these tragedies. We are a close family, that is for sure.

I’m grateful for the role that groups like Bikers’ Church can have within this community. When tragedy strikes, we are often called on to love and care for those in need. Without exception, our people seem to rise to the occasion and reach out to those who have been affected by tragedy. I love seeing that.

Anyway, pray for the family of this motorcyclist who died over the weekend. And pray for Ritchie, here in Ottawa, as he continues to recuperate from his accident.
