Election: October 14th

Well, it’s official. Stephen Harper announced this morning that Canada will go to the polls on Oct. 14th. You can watch the video here. Stephane Dion responds here.

Now, I have to be honest, in the past I have typically voted Conservative. Only because I have liked some of the policies presented. This time around, I am also leaning Conservative. However, I’m not a “blind conservative”. If the right leader was heading up the Liberals, they would get my consideration.

With that in mind, I have to admit that I’m a little disappointed in the videos above. Harper certainly came out and showed what he believes are the accomplishments of his government. He also suggested a few things he’d like to see happen if elected again.

Dion, spent the first 5 minutes of his response simply criticizing Harper. Once again, the Liberals seem to be falling back on the old, “The Conservantives are scary, secretive, super right-wing agenda.” That’s too bad. It’s old, tired, and just silly. I would really hope — and would really like to hear the Liberals tell me what they are FOR not what they don’t like about the Conservatives. Dion says he has a plan, but did not say one thing about what that plan is about. I hope he elaborates.

Anyway, if you want to follow election coverage, there are lots of places online to do so, and I suggest that you pick a few different sites to get a well balanced view.

It has been a long standing approach of the brainless liberal party to just bash the Conservatives. I think it is time to make this a majority government.

As I agreed with you about how annoying it is to listen to politicians go on about what they are against and how bad the next guy is, I couldn’t help but think that the same affect must be generated when the church spends more energy talking about what it is against than it does elevating the beauty and centrality of what it is for.
