Well, it’s now 2:15 AM and for the most part, I’ve been up all night (I think I may have nodded off for about half an hour sometime around midnight). Right now I am sitting in the lobby of the hotel using one of their two iMacs.
Have I mentioned how amazing this hotel is? Seriously, if you are staying in Montreal anytime soon, stay at the aloft. This is the perfect hotel. AND, they run iMacs in their lobby! When you sit down, you are asked if you would prefer using Mac OS X or Windows. You select your system and voila, the iMac is ready to go (of course, WHY would anyone choose Windows???). If Steve Jobs ever designed a hotel, he would make it an aLoft. No doubt about it.
Okay … back to what I’m really here to write about. Sitting near by is Brittany, writing on her laptop (I think she might be blogging also … chip off the old block!) Like me (and Heather), she really hasn’t slept much at all this night. Maybe an hour at the most. She’ll sleep on the plane.
We all had a good cry around 12:30. Well, Christina slept through it. But the rest of us … well, different story. I was sitting on the floor, Brit cuddled into a bed with Heather, and I was simply rubbing Brit’s hair and we were whispering to each other. And the thought hit me. It’s a thought that many of you parents have had.
I sat there and thought about when Brit was born. Those first few months as I held her in my arms. I thought she was perfect. Life couldn’t get any better than at that time. And yet, 15 years later, she has exceeded my idea of perfection. She is far beyond what I could have ever dreamt my daughter would be. Both her and her sister. They are, as I whispered to her a few hours ago, the best things I have ever done with my life. Nothing else I have achieved in life compares to the pride I feel when I look at them.
It is truly amazing to father such incredible daughters. The pride of my life.
Well, we are 40 minutes from the alarm going off! 1.5 hours from walking through the doors of the airport. From there, we see her off through security. And then, we’ll wait for two hours at the airport until her plane takes off at 6 AM.
For Brit, the adventure then begins. I can’t wait to enjoy it from a distance with her. It’s going to be very special. I am extremely proud of her. I hope you enjoy it with us.
