unChristian

As many of you know, I’m a big reader. I always have a book (usually three or four books) on the go.

When I picked up “unChristian” (see side bar link), I was really looking forward to diving in to it. It seemed that everyone I talked to found it to be a very revealing book. So, I cracked it open and was ready to dive in.

Yawn. Perhaps it’s because we spend so much time with people who are not interested in church and/or Christians, that I just found myself thinking, “Yeah, I knew that. Yeah, I knew that. Yeah, yeah, yeah.” I think it’s a great book for someone who is wanting to try to understand secular culture, but certainly not for someone who is already connected to that culture.

The other issue I have with the book is that the stats are American (of course). The spiritual mindset of Canadians is far different than the U.S. mindset. Far different. And so, for a Canadian to use this book as the basis of understanding secular culture, it would be a mistake.

There you go … my first book review!

Yes it is very interesting to see the stark contrast between how Canadians show their religious views versus Americans. We just got back from a trip to NC, and down there it is not uncommon to see plenty of religious billboards. Up here that sort of thing would never happen.
