I love underdogs … and clearly, the Sens are being considered underdogs this playoff year. In fact, listening to the different sport shows last night, no one — and I mean no one — thinks the Sens can make it past the Penguins. In fact, many talk like it might be a sweep.
I don’t know, I think they have a chance. Playoffs are a different beast, and last year, the Sens shook off a lot of their playoff ghosts. I think this team has as good a chance as any to make some noise going into the “2nd Season”.
Even if they don’t — and they lost to the Pens, I’m still a proud Senators fan. I stood with this team when they first came into the league — and won only ten games all season. I was in Windsor at the time, and had to put up with Red Wing fans. I stood proud of my team.
The bandwagon is pretty empty these days. I see more Montreal flags than I do Senator ones right now. Still, I stand by my team. I’m proud of these guys. I’ve never understood how someone who lives in Ottawa could cheer for another team. I watch the news and I see Senator players visiting our local hospitals. I read stories of them bringing sick children to hockey games. I’m told of all the good they do in our community. I can’t recall the last time a Montreal or Toronto player did anything in this community. And yet, our team — the Senators — do it all the time. They are a part of this community. And I like that.
So, no matter what happens, GO SENS GO!
